Recreational Soccer League

Volunteer Coaches

Coach Information: Volunteer coaches - we need you! A coach application and background check must be submitted and clear, prior to the coach meeting. A mandatory coach meeting will take place on Saturday, Aug 15, 2009 at 9:00am at the Civic Center. Come dressed for some skill training.

This fall, you will see some changes to our Recreational Soccer League which are sure to increase the quality of the game and development of the players in our league.

Per the guidelines and recommendations of Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA), we are implementing more of a small-sided soccer philosophy. The small-sided game is aimed at creating a developmentally appropriate experience for players. It is a FUN environment that focuses on the individual player. The core changes include games played on smaller fields, with fewer players than a full sided game of 11 versus 11. This allows for more touches on the ball, increasing skill development and fitness for individuals of all ages. It also provides players with an opportunity to play both offense and defense and overall be more involved during the game. Did you know that even professional athletes use small-sided games as a core activity in practices to keep skills sharp and develop fitness?

In addition, grades are grouped differently too. This will allow for children to play with others closer to their skill and developmental levels.

So come on, join the phenomenon that is soccer and look cool while doing it - all participants receive a full soccer uniform (socks, shorts and jersey) as a part of the registration price.
