We would like to take this opportunity to thank
you for choosing the wonderful City of Novi to call home. Our City
prides itself not only for the quality of our neighborhoods but also
protecting the environment. We would like to share some requirements
that you may not be aware of regarding your home and property.
-
Any structural change to your home requires a
building permit. This may include renovating the basement,
bathrooms, kitchens, changing plumbing or electrical or building
an addition.
-
Adding a deck, building an accessory structure,
work within driveway or culvert area of your property will require
a permit.
-
Landscaping – Whether you are planning to do
the installation or hire a landscaper, please be advised that any
extensive landscaping or grading conducted on your lot or within
any public or private utility easement cannot impede or change the
drainage pattern. The approved grade should not be altered and can
be found on your plot plan.
-
The City of Novi prides itself in efforts to
protect the City’s woodlands and wetlands. There may be some of
these protected areas on your property and no impact such as
building, installing or removing vegetation is allowed.
-
Weather permitting, lawns must be installed as
soon as you receive final Certificate of Occupancy. The lawn
should never get higher than 8 inches in height.
-
Snow removal – Within 24 hours after the end of
each accumulation of snow greater than 2 inches, the owner or
occupant of every property shall remove the accumulation from the
adjacent public sidewalk, walks and ramps leading to a crosswalk.
