FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOVI, Michigan, February 26, 2008 – On Wednesday, March 5, 2008
at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers at the Novi Civic Center, located
at 45175 W. Ten Mile Road, the community will receive its first look
at preliminary schematic designs for the new Novi Public Library.
The site plan and drawings will be presented during a joint meeting
of the Novi Building Authority and Library Board by BEI Associates
Incorporated and Diamond and Schmitt Architects Incorporated.
(See Preliminary site plan and interior schematic designs to the
right, or click here to
see larger versions.) The meeting will be cablecast at 7:00pm
on Novi’s Channel 13 and video
streamed live on this website.
In November, Novi voters approved an average of .26 mills for a
20-year period for construction of a new library on the existing
library property. The millage will allow the City of Novi to
issue $16 million in bonds for construction, furnishing and
equipping the new facility.
The new Novi Public Library will be located on the Civic Center &
Novi High School Community Campus to the west of the current
facility. Construction of the new library necessitates the
relocation of the historic Township Hall and the City of Novi is
looking at possible uses for its’ property located at Ten Mile and
Taft Roads in conjunction with this building project.
Construction of the new, two-story, 57,000-square-foot facility
is anticipated to begin in late Fall 2008, with an anticipated
opening in Winter 2009-2010. The new Novi Public Library will
include a state-of-the-art computer lab, ample meeting space,
children’s activity center, a teen area, café, and outdoor reading
space.
